‘We’d like to go to China and the Middle East’

    You’ve just started your own company; can you tell us about it?

    Dave: “We purchase flowers directly from growers from within and outside the Netherlands and sell them to customers at home and abroad. We don’t make use of the auction. We want to work directly with reliable growers. Eventually, our focus will be on countries outside the Netherlands. We’d like to go to China and the Middle East and target the better wholesalers, designers and high-end florists there. We profile ourselves as the Mercedes among the wholesalers. That’s because we’re convinced there will always be a place for high-quality produce. There will always be rich people.

    ”What’s it been like starting a business in the middle of the coronavirus crisis?

    Dave: “That wasn’t exactly according to plan. Our start-up plans date back to last year. In February, we had nearly finalised our financing, but when the bank spotted that we’re doing business in Zimbabwe, the alarm bells started ringing(..)
