As long as it doesn’t turn into WAR in Eastern Europe

Over the past sixteen months, flowers and plants have generally fetched high prices. What will 2022 bring? What are the consequences of the Russia-Ukraine conflict? One thing is certain. For the time being, the supply and demand for flowers and plants are largely dictated by energy prices.

If the Russians invade Ukraine, it will have major consequences for floriculture. Energy costs will increase and the supply of flowers and plants will decrease as a result. Many growers will produce less to cut costs. Some rose growers already don’t heat  (part of) their greenhouses, which means that they come into production on a later moment. War also has an impact on the demand for flowers and plants. The high energy prices affect the consumer, his purchasing power will fall.
