Five plants competing for FleuroStar

Fleuroselect presents five entries in this year’s FleuroStar Contest. Each of these new introductions vies to be the next ‘Winner with the Wow Factor’, the variety with the highest visual impact at point of sale.

Florensis, Dümmen Orange, Beekenkamp/Thompson&Morgan, Moerheim New Plant and Selecta have submitted their best new-season introductions to the contest.

A panel of more than 30 professionals from a cross-section of the cultivation, production and retail sectors as well as trade journalists and marketing specialists choose the Winner with the Wow factor at point of sale. During the FlowerTrials, each judge will visit several contest locations in the Netherlands and Germany to cast his/her vote.

The winner will be revealed at the Green Inspiration Event on 16th June 2016 in the RAI in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Florensis Dahlia hybrida Dahlegria Red Yellow Bicolor
The striking red-yellow bicolor flowers of Dahlegria Red Yellow Bicolor contrast playfully against the dark chocolate coloured foliage. This annual reaches a height of 40 to 50 cm while the flowers have an extraordinary diameter of 10 cm. Suited for larger containers, but also as a stand-alone item.

Dümmen Orange Begonia hybrid Miss Malibu
Miss Malibu displays a wealth of huge double flowers. Thanks to its semi-trailing plant habit, this plant is perfectly suited for containers, hanging baskets and bedding schemes. Miss Malibu is easy to care for and grows well in partial shade. It’s garden performance provides continuous colour throughout the summer until the first frosts.

Beekenkamp/Thompson&Morgan GineTato aubergine and potato
GineTato is a brand new two-in-one concept plant that grows aubergines and potatoes at the same time. The introduction offers three to four large aubergines above and up to 1 kg of white potatoes below the soil. GineTato is a patio ornamental with huge, bright green leaves, small violet flowers and dark aubergine fruits. It is suited for containers.

Moerheim New Plant Argyranthemum Grandaisy Yellow
Argyranthemum Grandaisy Yellow carries large, striking yellow flowers. Grandaisy – the latest interspecific breeding from Suntory – is a strong, disease-free performer which blooms early, is cold and heat resistant and therefore thrives in most climates. This cutting-raised Argyranthemum stands approximately 40 cm tall.

Selecta One Dianthus caryophyllus Capitán Colón
Colón is one of the four varieties in the new Capitán series. This pot carnation line consists of vigorously upright growing plants with a short cultivation time that will fully develop their potential in big pots and containers. One cutting of this new Carnation is sufficient to fill a 17 cm or 19 cm pot with a rich flowering, 30 cm high plant.
