According to Interplant Roses, the red rose market is showing a growing demand for Explorer. The launch of Red Naomi! has kept people busy for a while now. The interest in red roses is continuous. It’s an important colour. There’s a large, international market for it and the assortment is growing. That makes it a bit easier for Dutch growers to choose. Although, choices are always difficult.

I am pleased to have been invited to write this column and I hope that through this, and future editions, I can share with you about the work of the International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH) of which I have been President since 2015.

AIPH invites growers and industry associations from around the world to join its discussion on the plant health challenges facing growers in different countries, at the AIPH Spring Meeting 2017.

Nine ornamental growers, from Belgium, China, Colombia, Denmark, The Netherlands, Russia and UK, have reached the finals of the AIPH International Grower of the Year Awards (IGOTY) 2017.

This year’s supply of flowers from Ethiopia to FloraHolland, is more or less the same as last year. Despite the fact that companies were attacked by rebels, there was only a slight decrease. But the riots are slowing down the expected growth for the next few years.
