Sector can never do enough in battle against Xylella fastidiosa

    Recently Xylella fastidiosa was discovered in a batch of Rosmarinus in Portugal. Plants from this batch also entered the Dutch market, begging the question: is the sector doing enough to prevent a Xylella fastidiosa outbreak?

    ‘Thankfully, we have become more conscious of it’, says Björn Kohlmann, technical advisor at Tree Centre Opheusden (TCO) about the risks of Xylella fastidiosa. ‘Our growers are very worried, not just for their own company, but also for neighbouring businesses.

    ’For this reason, TCO assembled a working group over 18 months ago to reduce the chances of a Xylella infection, among other aims. Meanwhile the working group has been extended to include LTO, Anthos and the tree-growing regions of Boskoop, Zundert and northern Limburg. Communication about the quarantine organism has played a large role in this, according to Kohlmann. (..)
