’Unique and innovative Clematis’ wins at Plantarium

A new Clematis variety bred in the Netherlands has won the top award at Plantarium, the international trade show for hardy nursery stock.

Clematis Little Lemons (’Zo14100’), bred by Boskoop Clematis nursery J. van Zoest, was voted best new variety of Plantarium 2019. According to the judges of the Royal Boskoop Horticultural Society (KVBC) this new variety is ’unique and innovative, as Little Lemons is non-climbing, is grows very compact and it blooms abundantly’. Most of the Clematis range consists of climbing plants. ’Little Lemons is a breakthrough in Clematis breeding.’

Clematis Little Lemons won a golden medal. Two other new varieties also won gold: Buddleja Blue Sarah (’SRPBUD989’) and Hydrangea paniculata Whitelight (’HYLV02’) both submitted at Plantarium by Dutch nursery Lendert de Vos.

Furthermore 11 new varieties won silver medals and 17 bronze. A total of 63 new varieties were judged. Click here to see all the winning plants.
