The Holambra auction in Brazil realised a 5.5% turnover growth last year. CEO Andre van Kruijssen is moderately satisfied. “I feel that our growth should be bigger, but considering the fact that Brazil has been going through a political and financial crisis and growers faced some climatological problems, a 5.5% growth is acceptable.”

I have been living and working in Brazil for almost four years now, and I am starting to appreciate local products more and more, so the craving for Dutch products is slowly diminishing. We still have the typical Dutch spreads on our breakfast table, such as Calvé peanut butter, chocolate sprinkles, and apple spread, but in general, these are becoming less important.

It is raining, and it is raining hard. In Holambra, we have had 365 mm in the past two weeks, which is more than usually falls in three months, and the rain and gloomy weather are slowing growth. It is the dry season now, and the sun should be shining. At the moment, it is Valentine's Week because we celebrate ‘Lovers’ Day’ on 12 June.

Spring cleaning
