‘Ecuador is getting less and less safe’

    ”In the previous century, Colombia had the doubtful honour of being called the ‘narco capital of the world’, but since about a decade, we have been making serious attempts to take the crown in this area. Though the cultivation of coca still mainly takes place in Colombia, the processing, exporting and money laundering have largely shifted to Ecuador. With the surge in drug trade has come a rapid increase in crime. The violence between rivalling drug cartels has cost the lives of at least 1250 people this year.” (..)
