Anemone and apple tree overall winners HTA virtual awards

A new Anemone from Fairweather’s Nursery and a new apple tree from Frank P Matthews are the overall winners of the HTA Virtual New Plant Awards in the UK.

The judging panel including UK garden writers and retailers have crowned Malus Trinity Best in Show. This new tree from Frank P Matthews produces dark red apples with dark red flesh. Trinity won also gold in the judging category Trees and conifers.

Anemone Frilly Knickers has won the Virtual Visitor Vote. This new Anemone, a mutation from Dreaming Swan, received 306 visitor votes, one third of the total votes. The new variety from Fairweather’s Nursery won silver in the judging category Herbaceous perennials. Gold and best in this category is Penstemon Pristine Lila Purple from Allensmore Nurseries.

Best annual, houseplant, shrub and climber

Impatiens Wild Romance Blush Pink from Newey won gold and was best in the category Annuals. Mangave Mad about Mangave Lavender Lady from Javado Plant won bronze and was best in category Houseplants. Raspberry Groovy from Darby Nursery Stock won gold and was best in category Shrubs and climbers.

The Horticultural Trades Association has organized the HTA Virtual New Plant Awards because the HTA National Plant Show had to be cancelled due to UK corona measures. Click here to see all the entries for the virtual event.
