Fleuroselect presents six entries In FleuroStar Contest

    Fleuroselect presents the six entries in this year’s FleuroStar Contest. Each of these introductions vies to be the next ‘Winner with the Wow Factor’, the variety with the highest visual impact at point of sale.

    Bossa Nova Night Fever Papaya

    Bossa Nova Night Fever Papaya of Floranova is the latest addition to the Bossa Nova series It displays a multitude of cascading, light orange flowers that contrast with the darker foliage. Bossa Nova is an interspecific seed type Boliviensis with the mounding/spreading habit of a Begonia from cuttings.  Its dense, basal branching ensures multiple branches on a very sturdy plant, making for abundantly filled hanging baskets and containers that flower until the first frost.

    Summer Breeze Pink

    Summer Breeze Pink from ABZ Seed is an ornamental F1 strawberry from seed. It combines pink, double, rose-like flowers with summer fruit. Summer Breeze Pink guarantees continuous colour as the plant grows copious crowns of double flowers which do not lose their petals.

    Impatiens Roller Coaster Hot Pink

    The ruffled petals in vibrant pink of Impatiens Roller Coaster Hot Pink of Dümmen Orange lie on top of the green foliage. The  flowers are semi double. The branching habit makes the plants firm and sturdy and the bright colour catches the eye at point of sale. Roller Coaster Hot Pink performs well in landscaping and is a bright addition for the balcony or garden.

    Osteospermum Purple Sun

    Osteospermum ecklonis Purple Sun Is the latest Osteospermum ecklonis from Selecta one. Several shades of orange fade into a deep purple ring that surrounds the heart of the flower. Purple Sun can be integrated in any existing Osteo production scheme.

    Salvia Mysty

    Mysty from Florensis is a naturally compact Salvia with no need for PGRs. The royal blue flowers on the short yet strong stems resemble sapphire flames, captivating in both colour and flower form. Mysty’s unique, controlled plant habit not only opens new market possibilities for this crop in patio pots and mixed combos, but also establishes its full potential for landscaping. Plants do not have to be cut back and will bloom all summer long.

    Tagetes L. Little Duck Orange

    Little Duck Orange, is a natural dwarf variety with huge, orange flowers. Located in Thailand, breeder AmeriSeed specialises in French and American marigolds from seed. As Little Duck Orange is genetically compact, it can be grown without the use of PGR making it suitable for bedding and containers.

    Contest Locations

    The FleuroStar Contest will be held during the FlowerTrials at nine locations in The Netherlands and Germany: Benary (at Kébol), Dümmen Orange (Dutch location), Fleuroselect stand at Takii, Florensis, Jonge Planten Grünewald, PanAmerican/Kieft Seed, Sakata, Selecta one (German location) and Syngenta FloriPro Services.

    Expert Jury

    Over 30 professionals from a cross-section of breeding, production and retail as well as trade journalists and marketing specialists choose the Winner with the Wow factor.

    During the FlowerTrials® each judge will cast his/her vote after visiting one or more Contest locations in the Netherlands and Germany. The winner is the variety with the highest average score on commercial potential and point of sale attractiveness.

    FleuroStar Evening Event

    The new FleuroStar winner will be revealed during the FleuroStar Evening on Thursday 14th June at Florensis, Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht, The Netherlands. Registration for this evening is possible via the Fleuroselect website.
