German IPD helps developing countries to export flowers

“We help small and medium sized farms in developing countries export to Germany”, explained Andreas Gemählich of Import Promotion Desk (IPD) at IPM. The governmental organisation is active in five different sectors, including flowers. French cyclamen company Morel is celebrating its centenary.

“We’re starting with a number of Ecuadorian growers in February or March”, said Andreas Gemählich. These growers are currently exporting via the large companies. The idea behind this support from the German state is that it will stimulate the economy of the developing countries. IPD links the growers to German and other European importers.

Matchmaking

IPD offers producers in emerging and developing countries training and workshops to prepare them for the EU market. Topics discussed include the requirements with regards to regulations, import conditions and quality standards that must be met by exporters to Germany and Europe. IPD also arranges for the exporters to present their products at trade fairs and they introduce them to potential buyers through targeted ‘matchmaking’.
