For two years in a row, the IPM Essen was cancelled due to COVID. After the lukewarm reception of the 2022 summer edition, the largest ornamentals fair in the world finally took place again in January. It was a well-attended event, where visitors and stall exhibitors got a taste of the ornamentals market, which is characterised in so many different ways: restless, volatile, unpredictable, uncertain, yet also promising.
Growers and sellers can typically predict the plant and flower market reasonably accurately. Of course there are always unpredictable factors at play, such as the war in Ukraine – who could have seen that coming? – lengthy cold spells in spring, a volcano becoming active on Iceland or political tensions in Africa and South America.
