Welcoming just over 685,000 visitors, Floriade Expo 2022 in Almere did not attain the visitor number of 1.2 million initially targeted. This number is very disappointing and is particularly caused by the fair’s failure to attract the general public, which the organisers attribute to (the aftereffects of) COVID, high inflation and changing interests among visitors.
As expected, the closing ceremony on 9 October ended mostly on a positive note however. Those visitors who did show up, a total of 685,189, rated the World Horticultural Exhibition 8/10. Besides many Dutch people (78%), which is obvious, the expo mainly welcomed Germans and Americans, predominantly young people and seniors. (..)
